January, The Year of Our Lord, 2015 …

My participation here in the year just past was sporadic.  I am going to try to be more consistent in this new year.

My intent will be to post something every day — but be not surprised should I occasionally (or even more frequently) — fail in the effort.  Having grown long-of-tooth and long-since retired, with not much of a pressing nature ever a part of the agenda and much leisure time available, it nevertheless seems that I am less inclined to be faithful to a task.

But I’ll try …

It will be something of a monthly journal.  Each month will see a new post, with daily (or less frequent) additions.

A new post will begin on the first day of each subsequent month, labeled as is this one, beginning with the new month.

Don’t expect a classic composition or a best seller or even necessarily something interesting.

Feel free to comment.

So here goes:

Thursday, January 1, 2015:

Let’s start with something easy — photos (there will be a lot of those upcoming) …

The first day of the new year started out sunny …

Hopefully, the local meteorologists are wrong about the upcoming snowy weekend.  (More on that later — hopefully, a retraction) …

Regardless of the weather, there is always a warm welcome from our Church, Holy Angels, Basehor, Kansas.

It begins at the door …

And then one walks into the spacious nave …

With the lovely Christmas-Season-Adorned Apse …

And the Love and Loveliness of the Season washes over the Soul and Joy Abounds.

It’s probably because I’m an old Carpenter that being under the wooden deck and beams …

Gives me such a Secure, Comfortable Feeling.

That plus Being in the House of the Lord …

Well, that’s all the inspiration I’m capable of as of 3:15 p.m. on January 1, 2015.

More later.  Not necessarily More Quality, just more …

January 2, 2015 @ 9:30 p.m.:  It could soon get nasty around here —

A chance of sleet before 1am, then a chance of freezing rain and sleet between 1am and 5am, then freezing rain likely after 5am. Cloudy, with a low around 32. South southeast wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total nighttime ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.

Saturday  Rain or freezing rain likely, becoming all rain after 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 36. Light and variable wind becoming northwest around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Little or no ice accumulation expected.

Saturday Night
Rain likely before 7pm, then snow. Low around 9. Wind chill values between -3 and 7. Northwest wind 7 to 12 mph increasing to 13 to 18 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

The nastiness hasn’t started yet but the cold night air feels very damp and the evening sky has an ominous patina tonight …

Edgy January Sky
Snow atop freezing rain doesn’t make for pleasant driving.  If the forecast holds true, tomorrow’s photo may be of necessity, black & white …
